So just randomly, I recently met a friend who is into writing short stories and we got talking. It reminded me of when I was a kid and decided I was going to write a novel. We're talking about year 2 or 3, so fairly little, and I was into crime fiction (namely Agatha Christie) at that time... still is, but anyway, my first "novel" was a crime fiction novel... of a 7 year old.
I kept it all the time, through the move from Singapore to here, though embarrassing it may be. I took it out last night just to have a flip through it, and I can still remember most of it. No surprise, the work itself was very immature, with spelling mistakes galore and grammatical errors on every page (even though I was considered quite a good writer back then). One thing you can't fault though, is the creativity of a child. It is absurd, at some parts cliche, at others, simply "what on earth?!" moments. I finished the first book and never finished writing the second, but I was smart enough as a kid to leave the second book at a cliffhanger.
It will never be finished of course, because now my thoughts are different and somehow, after going through another 15+ years of life, it's impossible to think the same way a kid does again. Somehow, I find myself wondering what happens next in the second book though... damn kid.
Gotta keep the kid alive, somehow, even though I can't finish her story.
My brother bought the DIY cooking kits from Japan. He's got boxes of it!
We decided to make it last night for some reason. Anyone been watching the youtube videos of the guy who is an absolute pro at making these things? He's got patience...
They weren't easy to make at all. You're talking about miniature cakes, cones, and using a piping bag. I don't use piping bags, they remind me of mess so I avoid using them usually.
The measuring cup for water.
The two powder for icing- vanilla and strawberry.
First one done! Pink icing with sprinkle decorations. My job was to pipe the icing, my brother, the more delicate job of picking out the sprinkles and putting them on XD
The piping bag.
The white one has a little bit of pink in it. I think we were supposed to fold the bag in half and fill half with pink, half with white. I just filled the whole thing with pink, and then piled in the white afterwards.
I'm majorly proud of this though, look at that swirly pattern! It took effort ok...
And my brother said that he could feel his manhood slipping away as he was decorating these XD
They were quite fun to make though, despite the mess and the obvious fumbling of overly large fingers for such tiny intricate work. Taste? Surprisingly good, wasn't the overbearingly sweet sugary icing that Westerner use for cake. This was more... subtly sweet, with the texture of mashed potato.
Even though we weren't as pro as the youtube guy, we did put effort to make it look presentable! Look: wafer layer inside!

Are these the same kits as the famous DIY sushi videos on youtube? I thought they all came out like gummis or something.
Yup, it's the same! We have the DIY sushi one too, but that one is quite hard, so we'll make it later =D That one probably tastes like gummis... this one was just slightly sweet mashed potato, haha.
